A single EU multi-layered database for citizens

A single EU multi-layered database for citizens

  Launched by Riccardo Parra.

The EU could benefit greatly from the creation of single database containing the data of EU citizens. The database should be layered in a way that each authority can obtain only the relevant data without accessing other sensible data contained in the database.

Why should You support this cause?

The creation of a single multilayered EU database for all citizens will be a useful tool in many ways. It will help with establishing the framework for a single EU passport and ID card. No data should be physically stored in the single ID card (or passport). The card would merely feature the citizen’s number that corresponds to the entry in the database.

Not storing data on the physical card ensures that no unauthorised person can extract data. A person must be directly connected to the central database (stored for example in the cloud, stored on European servers). Different organizations (Hospitals, Police, Financial Authorities, etc…) will have access to some layers and not others. This maintains privacy, restricts unauthorised access and abusive behaviours.

The database would be untouchable by any unauthorised person or public office. Each public body will only have access to relevant ‘layers’ of the database. For example, health officials will only see health data and have no access to employment information. The citizen will be notified of every query to the database (for example via a PDF summary of the query sent to the citizen’s email).

The single database allows for:

  • Monitoring of health data
    • Physicians will instantly be aware of allergies and other essential information, for example where a patient is unconscious.
    • The possibility to constantly update the database with medical information on patients will help tracking pandemic symptoms. Health authorities will be able to back-trace symptoms and connect affected citizens with the flights and other tickets the citizens may have bought. Health Authorities will then be able to promptly identify and restrict quarantine areas.
  • Monitoring of employment statistics,
    • The single database can be used to find the perfect job for a specific citizen according to his skills by using it as a central workers’ database the companies can use.
  • Monitoring of migration fluxes,
  • Summary of education attained, and
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY the big amount of data will finally allow for a proper EU Artificial Intelligence framework.

The EU and its member states should be at the forefront of the A.I revolution. Join us in calling for the creation of a European network of A.I hubs!

Why should You support this cause?

We, the supporters of this Cause, as EU Member State citizens, want to ensure that our Member States, united in our European Union, be at the forefront of the Artificial Intelligence (A.I) revolution.

We want to enable our students, researchers and entrepreneurs to perform the best possible A.I studies, research and business within the Member States of our European Union.

Recognizing the potential contained within A.I, all of our Member States have already agreed to “cooperate on reinforcing AI research centers, supporting their pan-European dimension” and to “the establishment of a dense network of Digital Innovation Hubs at European level”.

Our proposal furthers these commitments: let’s empower the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) to serve these aims!

Specifically we recommend the creation of a dedicated A.I Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) within the EIT.

There are 3 central reasons why we believe that being at the forefront of A.I innovation is crucial to us as EU Member State citizens.

The economic potential of AI
We can harness together the economic potential contained within Artificial Intelligence solutions, in order to raise our living standards across our European Union.
AI as a solution to our common challenges
We can augment our quality of life within our Member States by applying Artificial Intelligence solutions to solve our common challenges.
Developing AI in line with EU values
We can ensure that A.I development is conducted in line with EU values to safeguard our way of life.

In order to achieve our aim, we will register a European Parliament petition to have our proposal heard.

To have our proposal taken up at a European Union level, we need your support.

Fighting corruption and fraud in Europe with Transparent Data

Fighting corruption and fraud in Europe with Transparent Data

  Launched by Transparent Data.

Transparent Data calls on all EU Member State citizens to help convince our European Union and it’s Member State governments to open up national company registers and make more company data public and accessible.

Join some other 31 Europeans supporting this cause.

Why should You support this cause?

We are strong believers in transparency in the corporate world. From our experience the biggest challenge in providing this transparency to people is twofold: a) The insufficient amount of company data made public in company registers and b) The technical and commercial obstacles in accessing the company registers across Europe.

There are countries like the UK, Bulgaria and Denmark which are leading by example and not only publicise more company data but also make it very easily accessible and completely free of charge. Unfortunately many other countries in our European Union publicise little company data, place it behind a paywall or introduce technical measures that drastically limit the access to the register (e.g. CAPTCHA). This needs to change. We strongly believe that all EU member states should publicise more company data and remove obstacles in accessing the registers (paywall or technical wall).

Unlike consumer data that we need to protect, company data should be very open and transparent. Without that transparency corruption, fraud and money laundering are so much easier. There is no excuse for governments in the European Union to deny their citizens transparency in the corporate world. Thus, Transparent Data calls on all EU Member State citizens to help convince our European Union and it’s Member State governments to make more company data public and accessible within our beautiful old continent. As advocates of data transparency, we hope you will join our Cause!
